    C-1 rear end pig

I see these pumpkins with 812 last three didits and also 833. What is the difference? JG says 833 for 58-60. Thanks in advance.

    Jerry -

The 833 housing is for a Posi, and the 812 is for an open; the 812 wasn't used until late 61.

          Roy,
If I had a 55 (or even a 54), it would break your heart!!!
If I had a 55, it would ONLY be a 3sp car (I never learned to drive a car with an auto tranny ). The rear axle housing would get replaced with a 56-62 housing so that a later posi could be installed with a 3.08 ratio.
The 3sp tranny would be replaced with either a later fully syncro 3sp or a 4sp such as a Muncie and the engine would be upgraded to AT LEAST a 350 (but with all the 55 shielding). The actual appearance of the car would stay stock 55.

If I had a 54, I would round up a complete set of 56-57 brake and clutch pedal parts and convert it to a fully syncro 3sp or 4sp. The engine would be upgraded to a .030 over 261 truck engine and the rear would also be replaced with a 56-62 axle housing so that a posi could be added (with a 3.36 or 3.08 ratio). All the 54 6cly parts would be retained on the engine (shielding, valve cover, carbs, etc). Oh ya, and it would also be upgraded to 12 volts (generator, not an alternator). The actual appearance of the car would stay stock 54.

(I'm sure this would cause Sam Folz to turn over in his grave)

That's what I thought and would love to read all the info while your doing it. I have no problem with that ( owners should do what ever makes them happy ) Me I love accessories , my wire wheels and bubble top so Sam Folz may feel the same way
Remember that's why I started SACC

Oops - brain-fart typo. The 833 was used for Posi from '57 through mid-'61, and the 812 was used for Posi from mid-'61 through '62.

Open axles used the 899 casting from '57 through '62.
