    ce block vs. #'s matching

Hello, looking at 68 L71 with ce block,it is highly documented, including original owner registration, tank sticker&p.o.p.My question is other than points deduction, and assuming purchase price would reflect ce block,is there any other reason to be wary of such a car?

The ONLY thing I wuld be wary of would be the provenance. There are counterfeiters out there today that are producting POP materials and tank stickers that will get by most people. Unless you are confident with what is being offered, or intimately knowledgeable about these materials, I would have some reservations.

you may look at as the CE block was replaced under warranty.Any documention to support that? But some thing to think about is that these blocks, even CE blocks have been removed and sold over the years.I have 3 such 427 blocks right now.Who is to say that is the one that was the original replacement.Another thing to consider is what casting number is the CE.As long as it is priced as a replacement block and you like the car I would say go for it.

Tag I have a CE block in my 1970, however I am the original owner of my 70 and know for a fact the new original engine did not last 15 minutes from the time I took delivery from the dealership. My POP has nothing but original engine stampings information and nothing written on it pertaining to replacement.
My engine replacement was only a short block. The CE replacement cast date and block numbers meet judging requirements, only the front pad stamping will lose points without the VIN and engine stamping.
The dealership did not even paint my short block Chevrolet orange, it is still unpainted 40 years later.
The 68's CE engine could of been replaced while still owned by the original owner.

Jim,thanks for the info. The p.o.p. booklet hasreplacement stamped on the front of it,the car has owner history from day one,but as someone else said thes these things are being forged really well.

Perhaps the stamp on the PoP has nothing to do with the engine, but rather the PoP is a replacement. Just a thought.

It's my understanding that replacement POPs were issued to subsequent owners to transfer the remaining warranty period to the new owner. So, as Terry said, it may have nothing to do with the engine.

And I would think it's unlikely that someone would repo a replacement POP (it has less car info and would be less desireable to most), but I guess stranger things have happened.
