What are you guys doing for gas tanks for a 1953-1954?

Mine has rust. No one makes one. Grossmueller's sells a stainless tank for $700. Can I modify a 57 tank with the baffles? I read all the horror stories from people who restored tanks only to have them start peeling and flaking inside.

    What is everyone doing?

    Randy,
Take your tank to a shop that relines gas tanks insides.
When you get it back it should be like new.
    I believe under $200.00.
I had mine done a couple years ago for under $150.00.

    Karl.

          Hi Karl:

In searching discussions here on the NCRS board many said that after a couple years the relined tanks would start peeling and it would get in the fuel system and in the end they still replaced the tanks. The C1-C2 folks all said to get a new tank instead of trying to save an old one.

As far as the 56-57 tanks, aren't the 57 tanks baffled? Seems like that would be a better way to go or not?

Who is the best source for 56-57 tanks?

          Thanks for all the help!

Try Auto City Clasic. I think they do 53-55 tanks now. They do not list tanks on the wed site but I bought a 65 fairlane tank last year as they were the only ones who had them.

I ordered one from them several months ago and the latest is the factory is "retooling."

That's exactly what I did several months ago, and I ordered one from them. After waiting and waiting for it CC has no idea when or if they will get any from their supplier.

                            Randy, Thanks for the info.
I'll call the shop that did my tank and ask some questions.
It's a well established business where I live. I'll see what they have to say.

Sorry Randy I overlooked the fact that they don't always have items in stock.
I have run into that several times with most all suppliers.
                              Good Luck.
