Gilmore Car Museum, Hickory Corner, Mi

A group of us (8 couples) from our Corvette club are headed up to Michigan (planned stops in Grand Haven, Traverse City, Mackinac Island and Mackinaw City) later this month. It all centered around the Corvette Crossroads Auto Show in Mackinaw City on August 27 and 28 but we've planned some other sightseeing along the way. We will be headed back towards central Illinois on Sunday the 29th. Looking for a place to stop and relax for a couple hours and came across the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, Mi (Battle Creek/Kalamazoo area). Wanted to see who has been there and any props or cons about it. From the website it looks like a pretty neat museum. Any input?? Thanks in advance!! Shooter

P.S. Anyone else planning on going to the Corvette Crossroads show?

It's a neat place. During the weekdays it's usually very quiet, and you may have the place to yourselves. I was there back in the mid 90s for a display of the Bortz collection and enjoyed it.

PS - stop in Holland and say Hi rather than Grand Haven.

Lots of stuff to see. You may want to allow more than 2 hours...

Henry, Great Choice. We have been there three times. Wednesday is Cruise night at the Gilmore. Some of the NCRS Road Tours will go to The Gilmore prior to the National in Novi. Special displays are always a hit.

Thanks to all for responding!! The more I checked it out the more excited I got. It seems like the kind of place we could really get into.

You're right Bill, 2 hours may ot be anough!!

Scott we are leaving here on Tuesday and suppose to be in Traverse City for a cruise on the "Tall Ship" Tueday night then we are headed around the pennisula on Wed. The Wed night cruise sounds like a lot of fun though!!

Patrick one of the guys we're going with works for Just-rite and we're meeting up with a guy he may be doing business with who owns a couple Corvettes. We're suppose to have lunch at The Kirby Grill, which we've been told is pretty good. How far is Holland and could you talk the missus into feeding our crew????

            Henry,

I'm on the north side of Holland, which you'll have to pass through to get to Grand Haven. It's about 20-25 min from here to there - just drove it tonight. Our Corvettes live on the south side of town, though (except for my 08).

Kirby Grill is a good restaurant, too.
