I am ripping out the Pertronics and putting my dual points back in. Does anyone have a picture of the dist with points and condenser installed? Thanks

Why a problem, I've put a lot of miles on my '62 Fueler with the dual point setup, including a road tour. No problems ever.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: Photo of 62 dual point Distributor
Bill;
I'm sure a lot of C1 and C-2 Vette owners have had good experiences with point distributors, but I'm not one of them. For sure the dual point unit was the best, but the old style was hard to work on and get set up right. I had a way to set the points to allow for initial wear in. I think it was a loose .016", as I recall, which would achieve optimal dwell after a few hundred miles. I used a distributor machine to set up the mechanical advance which, of course when set, was not easily changed like with the newer window distributors. I even tried a W & H Dual coil for awhile. That was twice the fun. That experience was all on tri five Chevy's where changing plugs was easy and cheap. When I got my 63 Vette with single point distributor, my life changed. Seems I was always changing plugs and points just to keep it running half way decent (by decent, I mean capable of red line). Electronic ignition conversions, and in particular Mr. Pertronics, have made all things well with the world for me.

What exactly is it that you need pictures of? I have one stored and don't mind getting it down and unpacked, but I'd like to have a good idea of just what you want to see once I get it down.- Top

Will these cover what you need to see?
Oh ya, and just as an additional note, I installed my first PerTronix conversion unit 18yrs ago and it's still building a great fire. All of my other engines with point type distributors also have PerTronix conversions, and with this much experience with electronic conversions, I doubt that I could ever be convinced to go back with points.
This is the PerTronix in a 65 FI dist that's on a SB400 in my 56 (for 18yrs).

Re: Photo of 62 dual point Distributor
Bob;
My apology. I thought the 62 was the old style distributor and some of my comments were based on it. I should know better as I spent a lot of time setting up window type dual points on 59 348 Chevy's (335hp's) and 62 409's.
Nice photos Tom. Like you, the points equipped distributors look impressive, but I won't go back either.

Re: Photo of 62 dual point Distributor
Go to NAPA and buy CS786P points and matching condenser. Yes I know some of you have other numbers but the one above works like a charm.
If you must go electronic then use the one wire setup.
We have had zero complaints on the CS 786P points except for issues with coils. John- Top

Re: Photo of 62 dual point Distributor
In years past, I USED to use the heavy duty Blue Streak points (they were cheaper than and equal to Delco points). But now I'm buying the Borg-Warner A112HP which is their heavy duty points (seems to be equivalent to the old Delco D112P points-------------of which I have one box left). No, they're not for sale, BUT, if I did sell them (for any price), they'd be expensive---------------and then I'd no longer have an original D112P point set.

Re: Photo of 62 dual point Distributor
John;
Have you ever looked at the cheap tin chopper wheel on those one wire kits? It comes in two pieces too in order to facilitate a "back yard" installation without distributor removal. Tsk! Tsk!
I'm very pleased with my Pertronics II and it is my preference of the kits I have had and installed as well for others over the years. As many horror stories that I have heard about them, I have heard many more about points. Everything mechanical is subject to failure. My enduring faith in them led me to pitch all my points and condensors years ago - both new and old. I still hold onto enough caps, rotors, and Dynaflite plates to see me through my remaining years.
