C3 Emblem color..fnt/rear different?

I just recieved a set of repop emblems (from Trim Parts) for my 71.

The red section shade is different from the front nose emblem to the back gas cap one.

One is a bright red, and the other is a darker, similar to one that was on the car...the other is missing paint.

I'm curious if they should be different??? The're not cheap and I want them right.

Pete,

I grabbed NOS ones for mine when restoring it and I am fairly positive the coloring was virtually identical.

I can look tomorrow for you to verify.

Pete, I have the same situation. Trim Parts--nose emblem bright red, gas door darker (heading towards a shade of marroon) I purchased them about a year ago for my 71'.

Mike, yep, thats the way mine are. I'm sure (at least i would think) they are supposed to be the same shade. Maybe someone else will add some insight.

Looked at the car - I swear they are both the same shade.

I don't have the luxury of holding them side-by-side, but I'm 99% sure there is not a difference.

I have a feeling that GM had the same manufacturer mak ethe emblems, leading to more consistancy in color.

You have to figure that types of paint used back then is not the same as now, the tints are going to be close, not exact.

I put repros on my '71 several years back, the same problem too red and actually got worse after being in the sun.

I managed to get some NOS ones and put them side by side and they are a darker red, almost maroon in color.

Those are very good points Bill. I think the big disappointment here is that we purchased from the highest ranking reproduction emblem supplier and would hope that the set would match in whatever color shade they decided to use.

Mike, trim parts does make a great repro part, But as is all repro parts nothing is exact as the originals,I can tell ya that the factory emblem is slightly different in the shade of red, and that the factory elblems have a rough cast finish on the bottem where it attachs to the gas door or nose,whichever one you'll look at, also the chrome plating is to good form trim parts.the same goes for the rear corvette letters
