    Magnaflux Mufflers

I am considering the purchase of new mufflers for my 66.

If you have magnaflus mufflers, please give your feedback.

I am in the Cincinnati area and would love to hear how they sound.

I can be reached on my cell at 550 9100.

If you magnaflux your mufflers, all of their cracks will become visible.

Nah Clem, He is talking about the muffler for the Flux Capacitor.

I have Magnaflow all aluminized from Corvette Central from front to back, on my 427/390 , L-36. This was before the new repro N-11 from CC or Gardner's came out. I love my magnaflow's, their quality, straight thru flow design make these an excellent corvette choice. I took some point deducts and still T.F.'d with them and the sound is very very good. No resonance, moderate at low speeds and when you open it up the car breaths and sounds incredible.............

Fellows; I believe the best thing would have been to correct the original thread first before making fun of it. I knew what he meant, as most of us probably do, but I can't blame anyone else for not being up to speed on the aftermarket. It's hard enough to keep up on the original and NOS market.

That said, I too have considered Magnaflow mufflers as well as other aftermarket systems. I currently have a welded/aluminized system on my 63 L-76 and it has held up well for 18 years, just now starting to show some pit mark corrosion here and there. But, it was a generic 63-82 2-1/2" system and has a terrible wimpy sound. I'm too old to consider straight pipes or side pipes, but long for something in between that I can live with and still hear my stereo. I have heard the Magnaflow systems and they at least sound great from outside the car. I believe too that there is something to consider relative as to whether you have a coupe or a convertible.

Yup, there's nothing like a shot of nitrous to wake up the old buckets. All motor?.............I don't think so.

You mean, you can still hear the stereo?

                  Re: Magnaflux Mufflers

After rehab on my car back in about 1976, to return it to original, I decided there would be only two areas I would not compromise on. One; I had learned my lesson about electronic ignitions by then after years of changing plugs, what with the many skinned knuckles, I promised never to go back to points again. Two; I had to have my sounds and the old U69 AM/FM mono radio just didn't cut it. I fixed it up to the point I knew it worked well, then retired it to the box my Autosound Stero came in. I also installed stero speakers front and rear and, later on, a 10 CD changer using velcro. All my electrical connections are faston including to the original radio power plug so everything can be returned to exact stock by my heirs. Now, with my top down and cruising down the highway at 70+, I can still boost enough watts to hear my sounds. The only limiting factor is myself and the need I feel to concentrate more at higher speeds (that and holding my hat on in the buffeting wind).

FWIW, I have since had to make two more compromises due to the changing times; Matrix Ceramic Brakes in place of the J65 Metallic Brakes, and modifications to my AFB carburetor due to todays ethanol laced gas - all of which are easily reversed.

Stu, how do you like the ceramic lining? Improved stopping over the J56? Shorter distance and don't have to heat up? How is the pedal feel? I have been thinking about them for my '57 and '77. I have a set of VelveTouch in the box for the '57 but don't want to use them---just admire them on the shelf.

                    Thanks!

                        Steve;

Now that I have the Ceramics fairly well run in, I feel they represent an overall improvement to the J65's for me. I can't say I've really put them to a major test of sustained hard use, but they seem to give me equal stopping compared to the J65's when hot and certainly an improvement when cold. I am using DOT4 fluid which seems to hold up better with regards to water absorbsion here in hot/humid Florida. My MC is a SS sleeved dated 63 unit, and the WC's are new so called HD pieces from the vendor. Pedal feel is good, but if I were to try and improve it, I'd look to adjusting the hydraulic ratio between the MC and the WC's. The trade off would possibly mean a departure from the visable correctly dated parts which I don't feel a need for yet.

I went through a lot to get them where they are now, what with incorrect new drums that didn't fit right and incorrect adjusters, etc. so I'm quite pleased with the current state.

But I didn't Magnaflux them (put that in to follow the theme of this thread).

Hey, I'm not responsible for Doc Brown's mispronunciations. From Wiki:

"Christopher Lloyd was cast as Doc Brown after the first choice, John Lithgow, became unavailable.[3] Having worked with Lloyd on The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai (1984), producer Neil Canton suggested him for the part. Lloyd originally turned down the role, but changed his mind after reading the script and at the persistence of his wife. He improvised some of his scenes,[10] taking inspiration from Albert Einstein and conductor Leopold Stokowski.[11] Brown pronounces gigawatts as "jigowatts", which was the manner a physicist said the word when he met with Zemeckis and Gale as they researched the script.[9][12]"

Stu, isn't that a little inconsistent with you're initial comments?

Roger, we have used Magnaflow mufflers for many years, including service and personal trucks. In fact, I have three trucks with them installed right now. I can't speak to how they sound and function in a mid year, but we have had excellent service from them. I think that the quality, sound, and price is very good. However, there are several good mufflers out there and I will not be putting Magnaflows on my C2, as I favor something more original in design.

I just put a set of the N-11 off road mufflers from Corvette Central on my 63'. Very happy with the sound. Great improvement over the stock ones I had on there. They were so quiet all I could ever hear was the clickety, click, click of the solid lifter valve train........
