    1954 seat belt mounting.

Getting close to reassembling my car. I want to put seat belts in it, and I don't want to just bolt them through a hole in the fiberglass floor. If I happened to get in a wreck I don't want it to be me and what's left of the the floor landing on the hood

It looks like I could use the body mount bolts beside the outside of each seat and make a bracket off of those??? But there isn't anything to bolt the other ends to around the driveshaft tunnel. Can I use 56-57 brackets like these?...They are just bolted to the floor, too...No?

Randy, 56-7 use those brackets along with underbody reinforcements. See Corvette Central part # 481421 & 481423 http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb.dll?parta~partsort The underbody reinforcements are required to provide more support than just the floor fiberglass itself. Since seat belts are a safety feature, would not expect to receive a deduction for the additional brackets and reinforcements. Gary....

      Randy,

When I added seat belts to my '54 (or, more accurately, changed out some older, worn belts) I was concerned about anchoring to just fiberglass, even with large, stress dissipating washers underneath the floorpan.

What I did was to tie the two belt anchor points for each seat together with steel cable that passes through an existing pair of holes in the frame.

While clearly not as good as having belts connected to brackets that are welded to the frame, I believe what I did will at least keep me in the vicinity of the car if I'm ever in an accident.
