    Hi Alan,

I would recommend John Pirkle first for the correct starter motor and alternator:

      Alan,

Call Bill Hodel, (330) 832-0871, for all your smog pump needs.

On my original owner 68 I replaced the original air pump with a rebuilt unit from Auto Zone a couple years ago. The rebuilt pump from Auto Zone was an exact replacement except for the plastic filter at the front of the pump. I did not turn in my original pump, it will be available for the next owner if he wants to have it rebuilt. The correct valve that attaches to the pump will not be an easy find. I replaced my original valve in 1974 from GM and the person at the parts counter told me one like the original was not available and sold me another valve that would work. Different part number and the air muffler is different. It still works.

To purchase or borrow? (Just kidding, sort of..)

What date are you looking for?

            carb, 4 spd or automatic?

I don't have any of the above on my car.

                Alan,

My '68 is also the L-36 with an automatic transmission. The most expensive parts on your list would be a complete smog system, if you need it. Second would be the carb. Being an early car, there aren't many out there to find that are L-36 with auto. My car is a Dec '67 build and was difficult but I found one. The starter and alternator should be able to be supplied through John Prikle who does outstanding work.

The part that took the longest for me to find (7 years) were the "correct" front grills. They are prone to break and are not in reproduction. What you will see on most '68's are the '69 style grill.

Good luck and let me know if I can help with the search.
