I have my heater all apart, should I replace the heater core, it looks good with no sign of leaks. I would take it to a radiator shop to be checked before I put it back. Then again it is 44 years old. Are the new ones any good. Thanks for your help Terry

Re: 66 Heater Core, Repalce Or Not
Terry,
My past experiences with this situation is get the old one checked and if necessary fixed.
The most usual failure spot is caused by changing heater hoses. The hoses should be gently cut off at the firewall, not twisted off.- Top

Re: 66 Heater Core, Repalce Or Not
If a pressure test finds a pin hole and that is repaired, the next one is just around the corner.
I have my original D66 core saved in a box and replaced it with a reliable new repro from one of the local big box stores.
If you want to drive your car, the peace of mind is worth ever cent paid.
Once you get the hoses on it, you cannot tell them apart in a finished vehicle.- Top

Advice I also received here from the NCRS gurus is to have your replacement core pressure tested before it goes it.- Top
