Working on the 64 manual steering. Installed relay rod and when I torqued the tie rod end the tapered shaft pulled thru much farther than the others. The hole for the pin is way above castle nut. It appears the tapered hole is worn bigger than the other holes. My question is it time for a recon relay rod. Ed

The only way that I could envision this occurring is if the ball stud nut was extremely loose for a long period of time.
The relay rod for manual steering is long-since GM-discontinued. I don't think it's reproduced but it is possible that it now is.
These relay rods were a Corvette-only piece, but there should be good used examples out there. Your relay rod is the 3/4" 63-68 style. The 69-76 7/8" rod will work perfectly but it won't be "correct".In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 64 Relay rod
Thanks
I believe that was the problem tie rod not secured properly sometime during vettes life. Also found the pitman arm not fully seated nut not torqued. Had a steering box from a C3 which was installed incorrectly. Not centered. Steering column not assembled correctly no lower bearing. ECT... Ect.....ect.....Ordered a reman relay rod. Thanks Ed- Top
