Anyone seen Mecum's ad about the 66 Shelby Cobra (Lot S120)? The present owners are Bill and Bud Jones, whom I rented my junior and senior prom tuxes from, as well as the rentals for my wedding. Bud was an active member of the local Corvette Club and the next door neighbor of a close personal friend. He had two Vettes, a 62? and a 67 coupe, and both were immaculate. Bill had more than one, but the only one that I remember was a mid 70's convertable that he loaned to me for a show once and that absolutely refused to go into reverse.
Thier Cobra is extraordinary, as described in Mecum's ad. I've seen a lot of Cobras, and this one is unique. I remember some of the details differently, but it's minor and does'nt detract from the historical significance of the car. I noticed that they didn't mention the dent from when the squirrel dropped an acorn on it. The oak tree, the squirrel, and the dent are no longer there.
I spent a little time at Bud's house and have sat in the Cobra on occaision. Bud never let me drive it.
If you know of someone who might be interested in this piece of history, you might want to let them know about the auction. I thought that this car would remain in the family and that they would never sell it.
