    carb for my '72?

Found a correct number carb for my '72 on Ebay today (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=180539154263).

My car is a late '72 - VIN ending in 525180. Is this carb - dated 1/22 - too early to be "acceptable"?

Also - apparently the restorer has an interesting blue recoloring - not paint according to the listing. I always thought carbs were a natural cast finish. Any opinions out there on this? I'd be tempted to argue that this isn't "a perfect reproduction".

Or, did I completely miss the point? Is this really nothing more than a fancy restamp?

    Thanks in advance.

Not sure how typical the date of that carb is compared to others, but your car is a late May car, so the January carb would fit the guidelines.

Seller feedback indicates he restamps these too, so just beware. I don't know the seller. Just read the feedback. Buyer beware.

Original Q-Jet carbs had a "goldish" dichromate finish. I think the blue color seen on this carb is some sort of photographic "anomaly". Just how closely the carb finish replicates the original finish I cannot tell from the photos.

I think the word "reproduction" in the item description may "softly" imply that this carb is a restamp.

The seller's rsponse to a negative feedback is not at all "soft" on the issue of restamp.
