    Frame Paint Preference - AGAIN

I know this subject has been brought up time and again but i am still puzzled on which way to proceed on the chassis paint selection on my 1954.

My frame has been completely disassembled, leaf springs and all, sandblasted and Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator finished. I am now ready for final black .... I have used Dupont Imron many years ago, as well as Eastwood's Chassis Black. It has even been suggested that Rustoleum on a well prepared chassis is a very good option.

Everyone's 2 cents worth would be most appreciated.
    Thanks!

My research a couple of years ago indicated that SEM Trim Black is very close to original. That's what I painted my '55 frame with, and it passed NCRS judging. It's close in appearance to the semi-flat black Krylon #1613 administered by a rattle-can (which reportedly has been discontinued), but the SEM Trim Black has the advantage of being purchasable for application by a spray gun. If I even do another C-1 again, I will still use this paint on the frame.

When we did restorations for a living, we always preped the frame, sprayed it with PPG DP-40 primer, usually applying the top coat immediately. We used PPG Deltron (9300 I believe) flattened to egg shell gloss. Their DX-685 flattener has instructions on how much to add.

I looked at a car we restored in 1990. The frame looks like it just rolled out the shop door.

          John,
John Deere Dealers have a semi-gloss paint that is great.
Comes in spray cans (pricey tho) and in bulk. Qts-etc.
You might want to inquire about this paint.
I understand that it's the way to go.
My "55" frame will be done with the John Deere Paint.

They say the old original frame paint was messy.

          "ATTENION ROY!"
Is that correct Roy. I do under stand about making everything original but
It must be a mess working on the Vette?

          Karl.

Yes but it's hard to tell but gas will remove the black (frame only not the front area or rear end), I dint use it on my 55 .
