    67 BB w/ AC Radiator/Shroud Reinstallation

I'm losing my mind trying to reinstall new radiator & BB shroud back into car. I've tried what I think is every way possibe.

I've removed both upper and lower hoses. All belts and upper pulley. Pulled back alternator. I'm about to pull the AC compressor from its mounts to slide it back an inch or two but don't really want to do that. I've removed the AC shrould extension also.

Any insight would be appreciated. I really don't want to damage the new radiator & shroud any more that I already have ! What a chore it was to get it all drilled and slotted for the extension and mounting.

    Thanks

You would be better to remove the alternator completely. You can not do this alone. The shroud needs to be in place (past/below the waterpump) when you start to drop the radiator. Lean it back as far as you can to start. I assume that the hood is off so one person can be at the front of the car and the other can be on the side. You can try taping a piece of cardboard over the fins for protection. Start to put he radiator at the same angle as the support. Have the second person slide the shroud slowly up as you bring the radiator down. The bottom outlet is going to get hung up the most. Be careful or you will crack the shroud if you distort it too much as it goes by. Once it clears the rest will fall into place (don't drop the radiator it is easy to do). Be carful that the inside of the radiator doesn't get scrapped by the top of the shroud. it is really vulnerable because you cant see it. Good luck.

Wait until you are well rested and relaxed, so you can take your time about it. It is a bit of a struggle, but will go.

I too have a BB, C60 and have done this job a couple of times. I cannot recall exactly the proper tilt of the shroud and radiator or the exact steps, but just take your time. If something is interfering, move it. You do not really have to force anything. I do recall that it will be best to remove anything in the area, ie, remove the delcotron and brackets, move the A/C compressor over out of the way and secure it with a strap. You do not have to open the system, just move the compressor out of the way. I believe I removed the water pump as well. Basically anything in front of the engine that can be easily moved out of the way will be a time saver and will make the job easier and keep your blood pressure safe.

I did not remove the hood and did the jobs alone, but as Keith said it does help greatly to remove the hood and have an assistant, I am sure the last time I did this job I wished for both.

I am not a real mechanic, I am a simple backyard type of guy, and a small one at that, so take heart you can get it done, if I can do it most anyone will be able...

Any thoughts about the AC compressor. Does it also need to go?

        Yes the hood is off.
