    Black/Yellow packaging vs. Blue/White

Does anyone remember when in the early 60's GM changed from black and yellow to blue and white parts packaging?

    Thanks,

    Steve

I don't think you can pin point a year or date but then "some" original numbers were superceded by a different newer number if it could be used on a later model year. That's why using the later number the part design can be different then the original part design/

I have some parts, dual WCFB rebuild kits, purchased in '61 that are in the black/yellow packaging and my Nov. and Dec. '64 purchased parts are in the blue/white.

I have a NOS master cylinder kit for a 1961 that I purchased in 1963. It is in the blue/white packaging

I have an NOS C2 idler arm in the black/yellow box. Also have an NOS 63-65 style wiper blade in black/yellow box. So those would be 63 at the earliest.

I do not think that it will be easy to pin this down. It would depend on the volume of production and usage of a particular. I worked in a part department of another manufacturer during that era. It took almost five years between the time we saw a change in the color of packaging and when everything that came in the stock order was the same color packaging.

The early stuff I bought for the `58 was in the black and yellow packaging and that was `76 or later. I would say it was not uncommon up until `80 or so.

Couldn't resist posting this pic of black/yellow tags with the "GM parts" pattern background.

These are rear metallic brake linings for '63-4 (J65 Corvettes), or fronts for some other C1 Corvettes and some passenger cars; # 3794194.

On a related note, when was the last time someone bought a part from GM and got it in the black and yellow packaging. I've been buying parts for nearly 30 years and never got a black and yellow package. I wonder if there could be a part in a warehouse or stockroom somewhere that is old enough.
