    1962 Suspension Question

I hope that this is not a stupid question, but here goes.

Take a look at the attached picture of my leaf spring/axle area. Out of all the pictures I have looked at, and even looking at the AIM diagrams, I do not see this lower rectangular tubular piece (see arrows) where the sway bar attaches in any drawings. (I do not have the sway bar installed, since I am replacing the bushings)

Is this an Incorrect bracket? If not any idea why my car has this?

    Thanks,

    Tony

Looks like something from my past drag racing days, not the swaybar setup used on a '62. If you need pictures let me know and I'll crawl under mine with a camera. Tomorrow, raining cats & dogs outside right now.

This is NOT, repeat, NOT a Corvette part!
It LOOKS like the attachment part of an EARLY day traction bar which has had the forward end of the traction bar cut off.
The correct Corvette anchor plate/shock mount/sway bar attaching bracket is totally and completely different from what is in your picture.
The parts that are missing on your car (4 for each side) are the 60-62 style anchor plate for the leaf springs, a flat piece of metal that is kind of irregular shaped with 2 holes, a U-shaped bracket with 2 holes and a rubber bushing for the end of the sway bar. This rubber bushing fits into the U-shaped bracket.
I have added ALL of the above mentioned parts to the 56, EXCEPT, the 56 has the 53-59 style anchor plates, and I've added original style TRACTION MASTER traction bars.

Thank you for all of this information and the pictures. This is very helpful.. I agree that what is there looked like an old traction bar cut off. What was confusing was that it was a smooth cut, exactly the same on both sides, and it had the lower holes where the stabilizer bar could attach.

Guess I am off to continue my parts search to find the correct ones!!

          Thanks

            Here's the parts:

(I never did get around to installing the rear bar on my '59!)
