If a C2 has to be towed.....

I don't want to be a pessimist, but now that I'm getting to drive the car (63 conv, 5 spd) there are questions about having the car towed by a tow truck that come to mind. (I have had some problems during shakedown, but luckily haven't had to call "Big John" yet.) I wouldn't want to be completely at the mercy of a particular driver's knowledge (or lack thereof) of how to handle the car.
    1) What kind of truck_ flatbed or ???
    2) Where/how to connect the winch?
    3) Tie down precautions. I have read in the archives about R bolts for tie downs when trailering the car. Is it reasonable to expect the tow truck to be equipped adequately, or should I put a "tow kit" together in self defense?
    4) Precautions once on the truck? I assume in gear and e-brake on.
    5) Anything else?

    Steve,

I would say definitely on the flat bed. For the rest I don't know.

a tow company will not have anything but chains, j-hooks and straps and will not be equipted to handle a midyear in a special fashion...a car is a car is a car, big hooks used to tie down and chains. this is my experience.

Most good tow companies have everything needed to flatbed your car. After all do you think BMW's, Porche's etc never break down. Check with your insurance company to see who they recommend, after all they will be paying the bill.

Flat bed facing FORWARD, if you put the midyear on back wards which might be easier for the tow service operator, the hood latches might release (hood could pop up) with all the twisting and bouncing about and you could say hello to a very expensive fiberglass repair bill when the wind catches your hood as you go down the road.
