Windage tray

Taking apart my BB, I found a Moroso windage tray attached. Does the BB need it?
I have found the previous owner/re-builder of the motor used studs every where except for the main journals. Wanting to keep the motor looking stock but getting more hp than the stock 270, it was suggested I go with studs for my 2 bolt mains; opinions?

Also, a Milodon high flow oil pump is used should/can I keep using it or should I get a different pump?

I would sure think that GM put a windage tray in there. Hopefully, Joe Lucia or others more knowledgeable than I will chime in. I wouldn't second guess GM on the oil pump. The high volume and / or high pressure pumps cause more problems than they solve. Lots of info in the archives on this. I plan to run the stock pump in my L-72.

The 2 bolt main engines did not use a windage tray, because at the intended rpm band of the engine none is required. Same with the high volume pump. The engine is actually quite stout in stock trim with proper distributor work and carb jetting.

back in the day I ran a mildon oil pump on many cars with "ZERO" issues so I wouldn't be afraid to keep it, besides only you will know and the original is gone so who cares is my opinion, bottom line.....do what makes YOU happy and comfortable, good luck

Are you sure that all 2 bolt main BB did not have windage tray's ?

My (2 bolt main) '72 BB does not have a windage tray.

Absolutely, no 2 bolt bigblock used a factory installed windage tray.
