I had to remove my vin tag to repair rotted holes in my birdcage. I'm ready to reinstall tag and a trying to find out the finish of the rosette rivets . Were they natural or black anodized? I have the rivets but was told they used a special tool to install. My tag appears to have a black finish of some sort. Is this correct? Thanks for any help

Re: 69 vin tag and rivets
Rich, I recently asked a question about the rivit colors on my 72 coupe and I was told the plate was attached and then blacked out was applyed over the rivits, The strange thing is my car the rivits were natural and the plate was plated a shiney black phospahte. appear to have never been touched, the only reason I asked this was I have repro piller mldgs and they do not cover the plate and rivits, As the factory piller does cover the rivits.
I had stepped into another post and asked my question and the above is what I was told , But I still believe that this is a valid question.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: 69 vin tag and rivets
Ed,
I'm sure a 68-72 judge will chime in here when they get back from the National and add to this but this is what I saw on the 3 I did (I forgot about another 69 winshield frame I replaced on a 390 roadster)
The first one was a very late 69 build convertable tan interior no paint on the tag this was a unrestored car. Second August 69 build coupe black interior paint on the tag. And third 69 (dont remember the build date) convertable black interior paint on the tag and rivets. So my guess is it could be hit or miss and if you feel it is original then leave it.
As a side note on all the black interior 69 camaros I do the tag has the black/suede paint on them.
