He was a Bloomington Gold judge for many years and it's good to see him at the National judging for us. The National Team Leader, Chuck Berge is the guy with his back to the camera. The fellow farthest from the camera on the passenger side fender is the car owner, Hank Hale (good car, good owner).
Mark, Glad you liked that one. I was walking by after our lunch break and had to take that shot. A candid one of the process. I also OJ'd that one with Dave and Jim on the Interior. Awesome car.....all 7 cars were! Also, Terry M. brought his L88. This was a special treat for me as I've never seen one up close.

I love the shots of Irwin Kroix 1957 air box, vin 5655. I have know that car since the early 80's when it was here in California owned by Ivan Bailey. So neat that Irwin brought it out for all to enjoy. He is such a gentleman. Only 29 of the orinal 43 cars have been found, and Irwin's car is one of the best.

It was great to see Irwin at BLOOMINGTON.

                Jim, Yes a fine gentleman.....

This is how I met him. The day I had my camera taking shots of everything, I was walking by the 56/57 section for the first time at the event admiring them all. I had a 56 project for a few years and had grand plans to restore it, but recently sold it due to too many projects and not enough space. After seeing these cars I started to get sellers remorse.

I strolled by his car and noticed the ears at the front wheel backing plates protruding. I stopped in my tracks! I then saw the FI emblems. I got under the front and took a few shots. Then I started walking around the car, slowly checking it out. I went under the rear quarters and saw the finned drums there too. I was thinking, could it be?

As I got up, a man and his friend walked up to me. He said, "My friend and I both were watching you analyze the car, and I told my friend I bet I know what you were thinking".

He said to me.... something like, "Do you know what it is"? I must have had a flustered expression as I said, "Is it what I think it is"? He opened the hood for me and there it was.....the airbox! He saw my excitement and we talked about his car for quite some time, explaining the airbox history and 43 originally built, etc. He told me the history of when he got it, back in the 80's I recall. All I kept saying was the wow word. I asked if I could photograph it and he said....."All you want"!

It was a pleasure to meet him and learn about the car, generously answering my questions and taking the time to talk about the car.

A very fine gentleman for sure!

                  Rich,
Did you get any photos of the rear scopes and the "ROCKER PANEL AIR DUCTS"? What most people don't know is the cool air inducted into the air box, was split between the FI unit, and the rest sent thru the open rocker panel boxes to the rear.

Here are a few p;hotos from other 684 and air box cars.

Great pics thanks.......No I didn't want to risk touching anything with the camera so I didn't ask. I saw shadows of them in there but was reluctant to get too close. The car was flawless and I was scared being near it!

YES IT IS Steve. Actually, it got nicknamed the "BANDAID " car as both Bob Johnson's (Columbus and Marietta) co-drove it. Kevin MacKay has owned it for years, and restored it in 2009. It was debuted at Carlisle 09, where this photo is with Doug Bergan, original car owner and racer/sponsor and "Marietta Bob", and Kevin at the special party. We lost "Columbus Bob" in Oct 08 after a stroke in 2003 hit him hard. All great drivers, and great history.

Kevin and Bob were at the event and went for the HERITAGE AWARD.
