C2 convertible top installer in St. Louis area

Can anyone recommend a REALLY GOOD convertible top installer in the St. Louis area that has a lot of experience with C2 Vettes? I really don't want to haul my car to a car show to get the top installed.

I am planning on having my frame totally reconditioned. From everything I read, the top frame must first be fitted to the car and windows etc before the rag top goes on in order to get the best fit possible. I spoke with John Kennedy and he confirms that I should order a "Kennedy Pattern" from Al Knoch to get the best fit over the side windows etc.

I will check with local NCRS guys as well, but I thought it was worth throwing this question out on the tech site.

Also, does anyone know of a guy that will make a "house call" and install the top in my garage? When I spoke with John Kennedy, he said he does make house calls but only for 53-54 Vettes.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Tim,

I had Southtown Auto Upholstery off of Kingshighway replace the convertible top on my 66. My experience was OK, but not great. I had it done before I was much of a NCRS type. On the plus side, the top fits well and they got the job done the same day I brought the car in. On the minus side, they didn't ask me if I wanted the seals replaced too. I would have said yes had I known. Also they parked the car on the street which I wasn't very happy with. So I would probably ask around first before using them again.

Good luck and may the force be with you! Please report back on your experience.

    Joe

Hi Joe, thanks for your response. I have heard of them. I appreciate your honest assessment of there service. I want to know where not to go as well. I'm glad your top fits well, but it's dissapointing they didn't even ask if you wanted new weatherstrip etc. I'm with you. I wouldn't want my car parked out in the parking lot much less the street. Thanks, Tim

        Tim,

You're welcome. They're not in a bad area of town, but like many parts of St. Louis city, they're not terribly far from the riff raff, either.

        Good luck with your top!

        Joe

Hey Joe or anyone in the St. Louis area......has anyone heard about and/or dealt with a guy named Randy Wade that installs C2 tops? I think he is located somewhere off of Ofallon service road. I have heard he is very good with a lot of experience. Thanks, Tim
