    '58 with radius rods

A '58 with its original frame, as confirmed by the VIN stamping, has the radius rod suspension control enhancement that was introduced on the '59 model year. The brackets appear to be factory applied. The '58 was built in December 1957. Any thoughts?

That has always the problem with a "vary" early or late Corvette and in most cases the owner has to defend what he thinks came with the car. Original owners that do know usually gives up and don't show the Corvette anymore.

My first guess is that a previous owner bought the parts over the counter and retrofitted them to your car. In light of how early your car is, that's what makes sense to me.

I don't know if plant trials were done by GM in that era, but it is possible that your car was a test (trial) to make sure that the new design would work with the existing plant assembly equipment...

What 'looks' to be factory original and what actually is can be a thorny issue, especially after so many years and cars going through multiple owner hands. Bottom line, IF a given car deviates from what judges consider 'typical factory production' norms, the burden of proof falls on the owner. That can be a TALL hurdle...

Any performance options? Might be as simple as being an SCCA club racer or autocrosser that updated itself in '59....

Does the vin stamp on the frame appear to be orig. Some one could have changed the frame or clipped the rear section of the frame. Does it have the out board rear brackets? Phil 8063
