differential installation '63 vert

I am about to remove my 3:08 and install a 3:70 I just purchased from Ikerd's. In reading the shop manual I'm not quite clear on the sequence of events (I don't know all the nomenclature in the manual).

Could someone elaborate on the dissembly sequence of the big parts, I think I can figure out the rest(I hope) . thanks, JIM

Jim -

Forget the shop manual procedure that leaves the rear cover in the car while you manhandle the diff housing out with gear lube dribbling everywhere - that's immensely frustrating and makes a terrible, smelly mess, and re-installing it that way is worse.

Take the diff out still attached to the crossmember, and drop the crossmember (after removing the spring, strut rods, and half-shafts).
