Is the starter neutral switch on a '65 with powerglide and back-up lights located underneath the shift plate in the center console?

Yes, it is. See your Assembly Manual, section M35, sheets 6, 7, and 10.

I looked in the AIM but there really isn't much to go on even looking at page 10. Thanks John for coming through with exactly the right information and an excellent picture to boot.

Now begins the fun part of taking the trim plate off and getting to those screws way up in the back...
