    hard top stand dimensions midyear

Could someone provide the measurements for a hard top stand. I am going to make one out of PVC pipe and would appreciate if someone could give height, width numbers. I wont be moving the top around much.

    Height: 28" (not including rollers)
    Width: 32"
Depth: 14.5" (inside dimension at bottom)

Problem I see with PVC is that you need a brace from the back of the stand to the front of the botton part. This doesn't look like a 45-degree angle on my stand; don't know if PVC joints come in anything but 45 and 30 degree angles.

Keith - If your plan is not to move it around too much, why not do what I did, providing you have the wall space. I screwed two "J" hooks into the wall studs of my garage and then slide a piece of round rod (threaded ends) through the two mounting tabs of the hard top, so the round rods runs from passenger side to drivers side (the tabs on the hard top by your shoulder when hard top installed) and the just hang the top up and out of the way on the "J" hooks on the wall. You will have less chance of damaging your top.

Kurt, I agree that the top is much safer off the floor. I've used this method to store several hardtops over the years without a problem. Here's an article I submitted to the Corvette Restorer back in the Fall of 1985. It's on page 18 in Volume Twelve, Number Two.

          Jim,

That seems like a great way to store a hardtop, are those tie down holes secure enough in the hardtop to hold this weight up and on the wall??

I have had my top stored on the wall for more than eight years - it's a great system.

I like that idea and am going to try it.. Just regular self taping J hooks correct? What size and length rod?

Read Jim's article above - all the measurement are there.

Mine were all installed in concrete block walls so I used 3/8" j-hooks screwed into 1 1/4 -1 1/2" long shields. As mentioned in the article above, I used a 5/16" steel rod and cut it to 50 1/4" or enough length to extend beyond the hold-down brackets of the hardtop so washers and nuts can be installed. If you don't have the means to thread the ends of a plain rod, you can buy a fully threaded rod at Home Depot. You will want to somehow sleeve the threaded portion where it meets the hold-down brackets so as not to damage them. Good luck, Jim

That's a beautiful top Kurt. I can only imagine what the rest of the car looks like.
