With all the new fees, I've almost stopped selling on ebay and now use the Corvette Forum, MoPar Forum and Craigslist

Like so much else ebay has evloved for the worse

Not real sure why these vendors don't list a C3 door handle and say they have 50 available instead of listing all 50 individually. Just seems odd to list so many of the same exact item. I got a feeling that alot of these vendors will smarten up when their 50 listings don't sell but one or two a month and their Ebay fees start adding up.

I click on auctions only, to get rid of the buy it now merchants, reduces the results by 90%, makes it much easier to search for the best parts/deals.

That's what I've done. You miss a few guys with some parts but you get rid of the commercial sellers. Cut my search time by about 80%

I understood this works for multiple vendors, you have to put a "," between vendors & I'm failry certian this gets rid of any and all you wish.

So search string would look like this:

1961 Corvette -Summit Racing, -Summit Equipment, -CorvetteCentral, -partsladi...

Ron & others --- that's what I do. Have 3 principal eBay search subjects, and I'm up to about 8 to 11 "ignore" sellers for each (including those you've mentioned ). If another pops up and I consider it sufficiently annoying, I add it to the string. Then I bookmark that link [3 bookmarks for 3 main subjects] so I don't have to repeat the excercise the next time I visit.

At least, this way, I don't get 4 pages of the same items. Pity the poor seller who's trying to auction a distributor cap that's buried in the middle of hundreds of those buckshot sellers -- it'll never get noticed and eBay should refund the fees.

1st I apologize because I hate to put up any posts about ebay, but I have to vent

I don't know if anyone is as annoyed at this as I am, but a little while back ebay had changed their search feature to include items that are listed to "fit" the vehicle you are doing a search on, say you search "1966 Corvette" in parts, now any part that could "fit" a 1966 Corvette will be displayed, for example like three pages of new head gaskets, water pumps, edelbrock carburetors, HEI distributors, etc. Trying to use the "new, used, or unspecified" filter feature doesn't work as most people don't specifiy anyhow, and adding sellers in the exclude feature is a losing battle as I just can't keep up, every day there are a dozen more to add. If there is a way to filter it out, I sure can't find it.

Anymore there is just too much new retail items on ebay, and why a seller has to list two pages of the same thing is beyone me. I've about had it, too much B.S. the last couple of years with ebay.

Alright, I'm done now.

Grrrrr. In search of an original left side 1st or 2nd Design exhaust tip for my 1970 I entered '1970 Corvette exhaust tips' in eBay. 478 hits on 10 pages! Mostly hundreds of exhaust tips by one seller who inserted the words: Fits 1970 Corvette.

We just had a tirade on this exact same subject on the Corvette Forum. Some guys only weeded out the pages of b.s. items by using several search words (like "NOS", "Original", etc). And one of the larger vendors (initials "CC") is guilty of this big time, plus substitutes generic crap parts for original correct parts, which you are led to believe you are getting.

Corvette Central lists the original GM part number so customers may cross reference. We don't mislead customers into thinking they are getting original parts. At times we list parts that are truly original (NOS) or 100% correct.

Plain black & white language here, no soft shoes hoping to get a great discount.

You guys could do a lot better.

First, the descriptions of what you are selling are so sparse one has to ask a question or ignore the listing. There is very little value in what is provided in these ads CC has on ebay. zero.


Value would be certianly enhanced if you did have significantly more GM part numbers that MEAN something. Service replacement parts don't mean a lot to a person looking for exact reproductions and or NOS. NOS is a real bad word in itself given GM part releases in the 70's & 80's for service parts on 60's cars.

Tell me that is matches the original for what ever the part is, or if is is a service replacement part. (to your credit you do that for hand layup fan shrouds) but I don't see your 66-67 BB fan shroud as being correct to the original either.

There was a time that your ads were good reminders to look at certian items, but between your shop and the mass marketers you collectively have killed us. There isn't anyone person that can scan 4000 and 6000 listing for good parts. 400 new listings daily for 67 Corvette parts and 200 of them are Edlebrock carburetors? That's not yours but I hope you get the point.

Droping all those (you can read about here) from the search result was like the sun coming out from beind a dark cloud.

Believe me, the last six months were horrible until others here helps us find a work around. When something is so BAD it becomes unmanageable, people react. Ebay won't, they want their high volume summits and others, but I don't - that junk is no where even applicable to Vintage parts.

If I want something from you folks, I go to your website or call.

Ebay is the electronic form of a swap meet even though their management team prefers to make their billons of profit off mass marketers.

Wow this is a really good thread!

I was wondering what was going on with ebay as of late with all the useless hits I was getting. Seemed like everything was a "buy it now" or had pages and pages of the same non-related crap. I actualy was thinking that it was some virus on my computer causing all the spam and it annoyed me to the point that my ebay time really dropped off.

Now that I see that it's just greedbay and some of their seller and that there is a work around I'll start looking again.

As for vendors like Corvette Central and Summit, they both just want to sell, period, so I can understand why they want to expose themselves as much as possible. Having pages of the same item instead of just one listing but saying they have more does seem odd to me. I would never buy anything on ebay from CC because I only look to ebay for items that vendors don't usually carry. I know CC is a excellent source for repop parts just like Dr Rebuild and ZIP so if I need repop parts from them I'll contact them directly and not through ebay.

UPDATE: HOW TO GET RID OF "FITS" RESULTS!

Just add "-fits" to your search terms, like "1960 Corvette -fits", problem solved! Not sure if everyone was aware of that or not, I just found out today that is all you need to do. I feel pretty silly that it was that simple, I didn't even think to do it because the "fits" part isn't even a part of the item title. Jut wanted to pass this along because it's been a real problem for me ever since ebay introduced the feature. Cut my one search down from 4k+ results to under 2k.

Since when is NOS 100% correct?

Okay, my search looks like this (1965,65,1966,66,1967,67)(corvette) and I get about 9200 items in parts & accessories most of the time. Where am I supposed to put the "-" ?
