The bushing really is used to control the yoke, not the shaft alone. Try the yoke after you get the seal out, if reasonably snug in the bushing it will be ok. Usually if the bushing is worn, you will see wear on the shaft of the yoke also.

Not end play - radial play. If you can wiggle the yoke up/down or side to side, the bushing is worn.

I have the same problem on the BW T-50 in my Cosworth Vega. Replaced the seal, but it still leaked and the bushing is obviously worn, which allows the yoke to move around radially.

I thought I was going to have to pull the trans and disassemble it, but now it looks like this thread will allow me to do it on the car, which is a whole lot easier!!!

IMO the original yoke should have been longer , a longer yoke gains stability from the output shaft and relies less on the bushing.

Thought I would give an update on this "rear seal" issue. I had great intentions to try this myself however this morning I took the vette out for a morning drive and drove by a transmission shop so I thought I would stop in and ask them to take a look at it and give me an estimate on replacing the seal and bushing if it needed. The shop put it on the rack, checked it out and said the bushing was OK but I needed a new seal. Said it would be about a hundred bucks and take an hour and better yet, they could do it while I waited. I took a walk for about an hour, came back and the vette was down and done, total cost including new lube, $112 with tax. The owner of the shop said that even if they would have had to replace the bushing, it still would have been a minor job and the cost for bushing and seal would have been less then two hundred bucks. I have to say I left feeling like I hit a home run. I'm sure, had I done it myself, with the car up on jack stands, it would have been one messy job and probably taken all day if I was lucky.
