Advice for a 58 Dash Harness Replacement

Hi Guys,

Looking to do a dash wiring harness on a 58. Can anyone give useful info on how to do it, or is this something to be left for the professionals.

It is a task you can do. I laid on my back and drew a diagam of the wiring attachment points for the dash from behind. I then used strips of masking tape and a felt pen and numbered the old wires and put the corresponding numbers on the diagram contact points I drew. Off came the old wires and I matched and numbered the new wires with masking tape. I then reattached the newly numbered wires according the the diagram I drew. It was a pain laying on my back. Take out the seat and use a good pillow. If Bubba has been there, try the same process with the wiring diagram. Remember, the diagrams out there have the wires incorrect for one of the gauges.

Yes the diagram is wrong in the AIM for the Ammeter. If you follow the diagram your ammeter will read backwards.......i.e. negative when charging.

Also, for safety's sake be very careful you don't reverse the wires for the fuel gauge. Diagram is correct for that and everything else.
