Gail Parson FI Guru passed away

Dick Robinson said that Gail Parsons passed away late last week from a lung related illness. Gail is renown for his 4360 fuel injection restoration work. Dick said that Gail had really gone down hill the last 4-6 weeks. RIP, Gary....

Gail was a good friend. A super credit to the hobby. I will miss him. His stories and life experiences were outstanding. Our sympathy goes to Maxine and the family.
    Regards

Re: Gail Parson FI Guru passed away

I could ramble on about Gail Parsons all day. I am still in shock my dear friend and mentor is gone. Tomorrow is his funeral and although he's far from me I would not miss it for the world.

Gail was approx 75 yrs old and started playing with fuel injections in 1957. He spent his entire life improving them.
We were very close pals. Gail was a gentleman, a scientist, and an engineer. I give him those titles as that is how he treated the RP fuel injections. His shop was a laboratory. He tested everything and constantly made improvements.
The parts he made were second to none.
But forgetting about FI's Gail Parsons was someone you would want to call your friend.
May he rest in peace as he has suffered so in the final days of his life.
God bless his lovely wife and family. John D.

            John,
please post more stories of Gail so that they may live on as part of this board. I, for one, love the stories and wish I had the chance to meet more of these members.

Re: Gail Parson FI Guru passed away

George, What I will really miss from Gail is this. He would call often and say to me, "John DeGregory this is Gail. Did I catch you at a bad time".
I mean that was always his opening statement. I would say to my old friend. Gail there is never a bad time for you but wait till I get out of the shop here and hit the lazy boy chair. Then we would chat about an FI issue or the problems of everyday life.
Gail was a big fan of the 1st 57 fuel injections. The early 7014360 dual spider units. I would tease him a lot about that as personally I was never that fond of them. Yes I worked on them for about 20 years but had my share of issues would them.
But Gail had a passion for improving the '4360 unit. He converted them to a single spider, put on a siphon breaker kit, changed the nozzles to '4520 nozzles, etc. He actually got them to run much better than the manufacturer.
Gail was a quiet fellow. Never one to brag. He was very serious about his work and never satisified. He wanted to know exactly what made a part tick.
That's something we should all remember. Doesn't take much talent to turn the screwdriver Gail would say. But to know the theory he said is to know fuel injections.
I listened quite carefully to Gail when he spoke.
Now for a funny story. In this hobby you get a lot of phone calls. Calls from car owners who don't know squat about FI's. But that's why we are here. To help those individuals.
Well Gail and I played tricks on one another. We would pass off some of those calls to each other and think it was funny. Hope I am not affending anyone here but that's what we did. Not that often did we pull that stunt but it definitely went on.
So a guy would call saying his FI ran rich or something to that effect and he would want to know why.
Gail would call me and said JD you are in big trouble again. I would say Boss now what did I do. Not my exact words. He would say to me, "I owe you JD for telling that *X@# to call me about his poc FI." I would just laugh and then tell him it was a payback. Then we would laugh like two kids. Well that's over now. But the memories will go on.

                John,
thanks. See, I knew I'd want to hear about him. If you think of other things, please post. I was reading that story trying to think if you had passed me on to him when I started calling you. No, but I do think someone else passed me to you! If I think of who it was, I'll let you know so you can call and "thank" him.

                George
