Today while chasing fuel leaks, I managed to rip the last 3 threads out of my intake at the left rear carb mount stud. The attachment is the stud I had installed. With the heat shield installed, I need another 1/4 inch of fine threads to properly install the throttle cable mount. What would be the P/N and source for a properly sized mount stud?

Re: 70 LT1 Carb Stud replacement P/N
Unfortunately I don't really have that option here in Germany. There are a couple of specialy shops that get there eventually, but they have to order it anyway and if I pay only twice the price I am amazed. I paid quadruple price for a pair of power valves just so I could get in a couple of driving days while the weather held.- Top

There is no currently available GM stud that I can find that meets your needs. Remember that the "transition" from SAE to metric fasteners began a LONG time ago. Being that they have not been used on cars for a VERY long time now, GM has phased out most SAE fasteners from SERVICE and now has mostly metric fasteners available.
Here are some options for you:
1) Obtain a Dorman #29131 (2" OL) or 29165 (2-1/4" OL) stud. I don't know where you'd find these in Germany;
2) Obtain a piece of all thread rod in thread size 5/16-18. Cut it to about 2" length and use a 5/16-18 nut instead of the 5/16-24 nut originally used. If you cut the stud at the precise length required, no threads will be exposed and no one will know it's a 5/16-18 stud and nut. Even if you don't cut it at the precise length needed, it won't really be a big deal. If you can't find all-thread rod, then find a bolt that has about 2"-2/1/4" of thread length and cut it off.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Thanks Joe! The Dorman studs are on the way.
I was preparing to grab some bar stock and cut my own. At just over a buck each for the Dormans I would have felt silly. I miss being able to just walk into a parts store and get just about anything I want. But the up side is that wherever I go over here I am a one man car show.- Top
