    1965 Water Leak

I have a 1965 coupe. I have had the car for 39 years. On the way home from this years Bloomingto Gold meet we ran into some real 1st class rain. Four days later, I was searching under the passanger seat for some sun glasses, only to find the carpet soaking wet. I removed the seat and discovered the front floor area wet also. I have removed the carpet and am attempting to jind the leak. A good friend of mine, also with a '65 coupe, has a water leak on the drivers side. Has anyone had this problem and know of a fix?

I have had three mid year coupes and all leaked. As a matter of fact every Corvette I have ever owned (65 being the newest) has leaked. I thought it was standard equipment. Don H.

        Gary -

First thing I'd look for is the side plenum drain holes being plugged (there's one on each side, about two inches aft of the body mount bolt at the bottom of the firewall). Various crud from the cowl vents accumulates at the bottom of those plenums, blocks the drain hole, and water entering through the cowl vent grilles rises up and "wicks" into the carpet at the bottom of the kickpad vent grilles. You'll probably be amazed at what comes out when you poke into those drain holes.

I stopped the leaking in my 65 about 35 years ago. I stopped driving it in the rain

Hey Gary. Be sure to check in the well behind the seats, where the jack is stored. I had about 1/2" of water in there after the storm, and Brice had about 3" in there.
