Re: 7 Blade Fan ID
It's hard to say what it is. But one thing it's not is what it's advertised to be----a 1962 Corvette fan. No 1962 Corvette originally used a 7 blade fan. Plus, the seller says it was used with A/C and no 1962 Corvette ever had that, either. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 7 Blade Fan ID
I have two very similar 18" fans; one is stamped 3931002 on every blade (68 psgr BB with A/C) and, of course, the other has no markings at all. The difference in the two is that 002 blades are riveted to an arrow shaped extension of the hub and the other used an almost rectangular extension.- Top

I had to pull out a pic of the 65 7 blade a/c fan for comparison.- Top

You're probably right that it's a passenger fan of some type.- Top

Re: 7 Blade Fan ID
It looks like the one on ebay is a 66 ish AC blade. 64 65 had a 5 blade 4 rivots in a square pattern. Round rivots.
Here is a pic of a 61 to 63 fan blade. Round rivots and about 18"
Thanks, GrantAttached Files- Top

Re: 7 Blade Fan ID
Thanks Joe. I did not think that 62s had a/c. But the fan is amazingly similar to the 65 7 blade fan configuration. I've been looking for one for my 65 and I thought I had stumbled upon one.

If this is a passenger car fan, the bolt pattern for the fan clutch might not even be correct for a Corvette. If so, it could be used for a Corvette but only if it was used with an appropriate passenger car fan clutch. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 7 Blade Fan ID
I do see where LIC is going to offer a reproduction of the 65 7 blade fan. Due out this summer or fall 2010. That'll be close enough to correct for me, if and when it happens. Hopefully, it's much cheaper than an original one.- Top

Re: 7 Blade Fan ID
Reading the '65 TIM&JG, "The rivets typically used on all fans have mushroom heads"; ... goes on to say that big block ... "5 blade assembly attached to the center with five flat head rivets" [per blade]. So this is the only exception.
Personally, I haven't examined many 7-blades in detail, and mine has round-heads, but is definitely a '64, per the seller at the '83 Bloomington swap meet, who had a bunch of other '64 parts.
I'm not saying that GM never sold flat head rivet # ....943 fans; after all, they were factory installed on ~ 4400 air cars in the two model years '64 & '65. But strangely, this fan continued to be offered in service until at least 1970. My theoryis that there was a continued demand to satisfy overheating, so GM continued to fabricate for service demand. These later production runs would have had flat-headed rivets, similar to all other fans being produced in the latter '60s.
So even on a June '65 car, I'd go with mushroom heads, backed up by the judging guide turned to page 137..- Top

Thanks Wayne! Here's hoping that LIC gets it right.- Top
