      it stopped the rear seal leak i had in my silverado so i would guess it has some chemical to do this

        It does but I don't know what the extra additives in the "high mileage" oils are. It also usually significantly decreases oil consumption in an older engine. The old El Dorado with 175,000 miles was down to about 1 quart per 1,000 miles. With the "high mileage" oil, it's now about 1,500-1,800.

          Like many Web sites it's a better source for learning all the myths and misinformation...

          If you want to learn about engine oil look at the various API documents that have been referenced here and in The Corvette Restorer.

            Viscosity index improver maybe? That is what STP and other such additives have, and they reduce oil consumption
