    Help on Buying a 67

    I'm a new to NCRS and Corvettes in general, but am searching for a nice 67 427/400 with A/C. I've see on in the the Ft. Lauderdale area of Florida, but would need to hire someone who knows they cars to help me inspect it for authenticity, etc. Can anyone refer me to someone in that area who could help? Thanks!

    Nicholas, welcome. A 67 427/400 AC car is a rare car and there are lots of phonies out there. I would contact your local chapter and I am sure someone there will be able to help you. You are wise to ask for help before you buy as opposed to after the fact. Be patient they are out there. Good luck!

        I would recommend Dave Walters @ (305) 254-6798. He was the head NCRS judge at the Cypress Gardens regionals years ago and just received an award at Bloomington Gold for 30 years of Corvette judging, including untouched "Survivors" of all kinds. He might even have seen this car before because he is still actively working on cars in the south Florida area. Dave happens to be one of the foremost authorities on "the truth."

            This one ---> http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1967-...item2eae0198c3

            That dealer bought the car at auction a few weeks ago. Paid $109K
            It was owned by the swindler Scott Rothstein, (south Florida's Madoff)
            who just had his entire estate liquidated.
            Rothstein Bought the car a few years back for WAY MORE THEN THAT.

            Don't know if it is real - but I heard it was very nice.

              It was for sale on ebay a year ago. Are you sure he bought it a few years ago?

                Jeff is correct. That car was purchased by Euro sports motorcars at an auction last month in Ft. Lauderdale. It was sold by a fellow corvette club friend of mine to Scott Rothstein for $175K a year or so ago. It is absolutely the real deal, and has docs and owner history. Do not believe it was ever flight judged. I have seen the car, and it is spectacular.

                  The car went off without ever receiving that first bid.

                  Of course, the "hidden reserve" likely didn't help in the matter......

                  I'm wondering if a serious cash offer just might buy that car.

                    Looks like a 'rough' place to be right now. Jeff has good local knowledge. Suggest you all talk quietly on the phone, and keep the attitude off the Tech Discussions......

                        Thanks for all the input, I really learned a lot about this car from your comments. The seller didn't disclose the recent shady history of this car's last owner to me, which certainly makes me wonder how much I can trust any of his representations. I located another car, same year and similar options but the 390 HP, with Bloomington Gold Cert. and a lot less $$. Maybe this would be a better car for me to pursue...

                          My take is IF you're intending to seriously drive/use the car vs. show it, the 390 HP BB is an overlooked 'bargain' compared to what you'll pay for a tri-power car. Plus, expect the single 4-Bbl to deliver a long and reliable performance profile vs. the three carbie system!
