    64 Battery Post Area

I am in the process of reinstalling my battery. I am using a reproduction, dated Delco tar top battery, and a factory reproduction battery mounting setup purchased from long Island Corvette. The positive spring ring cable is very close to the hold down assembly, perhaps 1/4" from making contact. While it should not hit, I am uncomfortable with this close fit. There is supposed to be a felt washer that goes under the cable on the positive post. Is this intended to add a degree of insulation? Any comments as to this close tolerence is appreciated as I am sure others have encountered this discomfort. The concern of course is the dreaded short to the grounded hold down ass'y.

Mike, I can understand your concern with the closeness. You should be OK with that spacing.
The felt washer is designed to have a little motor oil on it to act as an aid to prevent battery corrosion. Bill
