Timing......It's all about Timing......

So my good friend Chuck McSheehy has been waiting for a few months now, being wait-listed(first on the list)to enter his 65 Fuelie Coupe for flight judging at Charlotte. He spent 1 1/2 years of his life doing a complete restoration. I helped him a bit along the way and was by his side at the Winter Regional here in Florida in January where he Top Flighted.

Well, he got the call yesterday from Roy that there was a cancellation! He's in! I told Chuck last year I'd go with him to Charlotte and be his shotgun for the ride there and help out with the whole trip. This is where the problem is......

I was not planning to go to Charlotte if he didn't go. I never pre-registered to go. Is it too late for me to pre-register to attend? I am now at the last minute planning to go and I'd like to attend a few seminars(if there's room) and be part of the big event. I would also like to OJ if any judges need help(any gen but C1/C2's my forte') I have not been to a National in about 15 years. Lake Placid, NY(95? or 96? can't recall), was the last time I attended one, just as a member/spectator. These days I'm way more into the organization and fortunately now have the time and want to be more involved.

Rich...it's too late to pre-register...however you can register on site and this will entitle you to attend the seminars and OJ etc...Seminars are usually sign up on site as well as OJ the day you want to judge...BTW Lake Placid was 1997...longest 2 yrs of my life

Can I still get some preliminary info to someone to be on the list for OJ? Also for any Seminars? Please...........?

Hi Vinnie......we posted at the same second! Thanks, Yes I see that now. But I'd still like somehow to be pre-selected to help with OJ. Not for my benefit, but to try to help the cause.

p.p.s Ah, I see you edited and added about Lake Placid. That was a fun time for my wife and I. It was our first national attendance. I'll never forget the trip. We drove the 59 from Nashua NH, where we lived then, to Lake Placid through the Green Mountains of Vermont and across the Hudson at some Fort along the river. Top down in the 59 with my lovely wife along side. Doesn't get any better than that! We planned our vacation around the national. We got a B&B at the base of Whiteface Mountain. We were the only guests there and were treated like family. The ride from downtown to the B&B along the river every day was gorgeous. Curvey turns and beautiful scenery, athough one night heading back we just missed a deer! One day we drove the 59 up the auto road to the top of Whiteface for the touristy stuff. Great time.
Only thing I was disapointed about was that there was no parking for members Corvettes in the field. We had to park on Main St every day. I'm happy to see more accomodations for members driving their old Corvettes to the events these days.

Rich...I don't think OJ is pre-selected, you go to the respective team leader the day of the judging...(I might stand corrected on this)...unfortunately Lake Placid was so small there was no parking available for members Corvettes...the convention bureau in Lake Placid could not find or offer any available space for every day drivers...

So the registration form has a pre-registration section for OJ asking preference for years etc. That's why I inquired. Not a big deal for now but now that I'm getting excited again about going it's all coming back to me.

So here's another question for the ranks. Chuck has already registered at the "Family" rate and added me as a Guest. I forgot he did that. Can a NCRS member go as a guest? I would think Not. Either way I'd imagine a guest couldn't OJ.

No on both counts. NCRS bylaws require that each NCRS member attending a meet register and pay the appropriate fees. Most meets offer a 'day rate' but that only gets you access to the judging field and doesn't allow you to participate in the judging process or attend ancillary functions (work shops, tech sessions, Etc.).

The 'guest' designation is for non-NCRS members accompanying an NCRS member. And, NCRS rules require those who judge be members in good standing of NCRS.

If you go as a guest then don't expect to be able to OJ or judge or accumulate judging points. You can have access, and can attend the seminars, but that's it.

Since this is a National, call the NCRS office in Cincy and talk to Eric. Since you're already a guest see if he can "upgrade" your registration and avoid the late fee.

Rich, day fees only allow a "visitor" to observe the cars. Day fee visitors are not permitted to attend any functions including seminars. NCRS members must register to attend any and all functions. NCRS members may pay the day visitor fee and can only observe the cars. Guest on a registration form is for "non-NCRS" members. NCRS members may not be added as a "Guest" to another members registration. Gary....

Wow, just got back home from a day of helping Chuck with the trailer and the fuelie prep work. The pressure is on now!


Ok........It's all what I thought it is. Good idea Patrick, I'll may drop Eric a note and see if he can give me an upgrade. I'm not really concerned about the cost factor as I want to "pay my dues" as everyone else, but it's just the sudden timing thing and to maybe get on the early list for OJ, etc.

On the other hand I know this is likely a bad time as all these people planning the event are wrapped up with stuff so I don't want to add to their burden. I may just leave well enough alone.
