    Tag Identification

Another easy one today. On the driver side firewall of my 57, above and near the master cylinder I have a round 1-1/16 diameter aluminum tag. The tag is stamped 8087 and under that is 17. The tag was held on by a self taping screw like the ones holding the wiring harness J-clips. Does anyone know the significance of this tag and should it be painted blackout? Thanks in advance again for furthering my education. -Dan-

      Re: Tag Identification

Will do Mike. Might take until next week. Out of town holiday plans are starting up here. I have the tag off the car now as I re-did the blackout with the engine out. But the tag was painted blackout, which led me to believe it to be factory. Anyhow, next week I will attach a photo for your viewing pleasure. -Dan-

        Dan,
Is there a correlation between the car's serial number or build date to the number(s) on the tag?.

Have a Happy Fourth of July!

        Cheers,
        Charlie

No correlation at all Charlie. VIN is 4122, built on or around May21, 57. Beginning to look like this thing is bogus. Its just that it was painted the same color blackout as the firewall and held on with the same screw type as the wire clips. It is made of very hard aluminum too. Even though is .041 thick, it is almost impossible to bend with ones fingers. I have to believe it is aluminum - it looks like aluminum with the paint stripped off, it is very light, and is non-magnetic.

You have a good fourth too (and all NCRS members and their families) -Dan-
