    67 427/400hp Starter Question

My 67 BB (L68 - 400 HP) has a 1108400 starter with date code 3L85. I can only assume it's not original or correct for the car. Any thoughts or help decoding the 3L85.

    Thanks

It is a replacement starter.Could the date code series be 3L8 5? That would indicate a November 8 1973 date. The 5 is an operator code.

Thanks John. You are exactly right. It's 3L8 5.

Also John does anyone have the spring steel wire retaining clamp that the judging manual talks about. I can't find it in the AIM either.

While not original or correct for any 1967 Corvette, the GM #1108400 starter is a correct functional replacement starter for your application. The 1108400 was also used in PRODUCTION on many 1969-74 Corvette big blocks.

Other than "numbers" and "dates" it is configured exactly the same as the 1107365 originally used for your application except for one feature. The 1107365 used field coil shoe screws with a slotted drive. The 1108400 used field coil shoe screws with phillips (cross recess) drive. Those are EASILY changed.

            Steve -

See section L36, sheet A16, item #2 for the clamp.
