    power steering slave cylinder

I am searching for a GM power steering cylinder for my 67 corvette. My question is about the availablity of these NOS parts. I would much rather have NOS that any repro parts..

Having looked at the rebuilt units and the new reproduction cylinders I thought I would try for NOS. I just don't like that bead weld look compared to the original assembly. I have thought about taking the wore cylinder to Alban machine shop here in Baltimore and see if they can spray weld the rod in the center and somehow lathe to specs.

    Any help is appreciated, Tim

The part you're looking for was GM #5691112 but it was GM-discontinued a few years ago.

I totally agree with you that I don't like the "re-manufactured" cylinders that have had the tube "cut-and-welded". In fact, I've even seen some of these that the welded-on end section was not even welded-on straight! Either way, though, I don't like them although they might be functionally ok.

However, while I have not compared side-by-side a reproduction cylinder to an original, at least by cursory comparison, they appear to me to be virtually identical.

      Thanks for the reply Joe,

I may have to try the repro part but really want a NOS cylinder. I called Corvette Stainless brakes in FL and they are looking for a nice core that has a good rod.

      I will keep looking..
