    protecto plate decoding

What does the K mean on the 3rd line of pop?
I do know what my date code is, so it is not that.
There is a # 113 on the same line before the K, I
would like to know what that is also?

    Hi Branko !!!

Welcome to the NCRS board. Let us know what year your plate is from exactly. Here's a 71 plate breakdown. Let me know what location your K is in.

It is a 1971 LT1, Vin is on the 1st line, 2nd line is the build date and transmision code, 3rd line is ABG231W H 113 K

Are you sure that's a 'K' and not the Chevy bowtie symbol? It'd be a single character almost all the way across the plate from the transmission source & date code fields on the 3rd line, holarith field C-29.

That should be the rear axle code I believe.

          AB should be 3.70 ratio
G is the Chevy Gear Plant
          231 is the 231st day of the year. ( Maybe 23rd day 1st shift ?? )

I'm having trouble deciphering the rest ????? Your codes don't jive up with the book I have in the office with me today. Sorry I'm not much help.

There is a chevy bow tie right in front of it.

The H I think stands for August but the K with the bowtie baffles me.

Branko glad to see have joined welcome. Here is the break down from a 1971 Assembly Instruction Manual. Your VIN was 2333 right if it was there was a strike from about S/N 2227 Sept 1970 till Nov 1970. The K on your POP may be the month that it came off the line. Hope this helps. Could not send AIM will try to email to you. Paul
