    whistle from new 67 Tri-carbs

I just installed a set of new Holley Tri-carbs on my 67- 400HP and now have a loud whistle from the centre carb. When I wiggle the accelerator rod the whistle goes away. Does this mean I have too much play in the throttle rod on the carb which causes the whistle? Aside from sending the carb back to Holley can anyone offer a quick fix? Thank you.

    Lorne,

If by throttle rod you mean the shaft then something may not be right in the bore causing a vacuum leak. I would call Holley and see what they suggest if you paid them to do the work.

Make sure the base gasket is correct and the leak is not coming from there.

My 66 L-79 Holley was whistling because of the surfaces between the body of the carb and the base plate were warped. After following Tim's advice, try a straight edge across both surface and see what you come up with. If you and extra gasket you can try two of the to test the idea.

Tim and Peter, thank you for the advise. Yes I am referring to the shaft. This is a brand new replacement carb from Holley so perhaps the throttle bore is incorrect for some reason. Before sending it back to Holley I will make sure the carb bottom and intake are perfectly flat. I will try a different gasket and see if the leak goes away.
The gaskets I bought from LIC are paper thin. Is this correct? I am used to using much thicker gaskets on my four barrel engines.

        Thanks again for the advise.

Check the gasket between the carb and the intake. If the gasket is not sealing properly you will get a whistle.
