    Rear end support braces

I had the opportunity to see my car's "private part", you know, the ones where "the sun don't shine" this past week as she is getting that area washed (whee you), cleaned and detailed. It was pointed out to me that there are woven fabric supports placed bilaterally under the rear end wheels to support them and not allow them to drop down too low when the car is on a lift.

Mine are intact but torn. Evidently the broken supports that are on my car are not original. This is an odd item for these cars. Does anyone know where I might be able to buy a replacement set that would be appropriate.

I am told that there is not a safety issue if these bands are not functional. Is that true?

    Hi Valeria:
The correct name is "rebound straps". They are available from Paragon (page 11), Corvette Central and others. You (or your mechanic) will need a rivet tool to install the new straps and plates. Not having them is not a safety issue unless you are going over traffic bumps at 60 miles/hr.

You need the "Mongoose" tool to brad the rivets when you replace the straps

        Valeria,
The rivit tool (Mongoose tool) is available from some NCRS chapters on a loan basis. It does a proper job on the rivits and is very easy to use.
        Check with your local chapter.

          Thanks Howard,
I'll place the order today! I will try to get them on the car asap.

Thanks to Dick for the heads up on the Mongoose tool needed. I remember several threads posted regarding this rascal. Does anyone in the Carolina's Chapter have a Mongoose I could borrow?

Paragon is the only catalog I do not have a physical copy of on hand. I looked at page 11 on line and did a search in the catalog for "rebound straps" and came up empty handed with Paragon.

I did find them listed in Corvette Centrals catalog but of course this leads to another question! They have them broken down by the years however '60 is further subcategorized into either '60E or '60L-62?

Can anyone guide me in the right direction. I have a call out to my mechanic about this but I think he is out racing his '58 today.

Thanks to all for your shared knowledge and expertise.

There was a thread with lengths of the straps by years a couple of months ago.

                Valeria,

                Paragon lists # 2705K for early 1960 at 30" and # 2706K for late 1960 -62 at 29 1/2".
