    1968 -72 Original Tires

Do you see alot of these tires at swap meets, and which ones are harder to find "Firestone or Goodyear" and what are they asking for them?

See them rarely and damned expensive.

Were the Firestone Wide Oval's an option?

Ron: the LT1 and LS6 came from the factory with Firestones, while the base engine and LS5 came with the Goodyears.

Judging guide indicates 68-69 Firestone "Wide O Oval" were available in after Sept of 1969

Then my 1970 LT1 with Goodyears was a special order. It still sits in the garage on Goodyears -- one of those being one of the five originals.

Any 1968-1972 Corvette could have come with either Goodyears or Firestones, and some came with Uniroyal Tiger Paws too.

Perhaps I should have prefaced my previous comment as being specific to model year 1971 as that was definitely the case when I ordered my car in September 1970. Thanks, Jim

Jim please send your evidence of the brand of tires being specific to engine option to Stan Falinski (from the membership list above) for potential inclusion in the next revision of the TIM&JG. Your statement is the first I have heard of any tire gradations in thirty years of 1970-1972 Corvette involvement. I am pleased to learn something new.

                  Same here.
I've never seen a correlation - but then I've been at this for only 25 years.
Firestones came on all 3 of the base motor cars in my garage (June 71 - lettered wide oval, Oct 71 - white stripe, June 72 - lettered wide oval).

This would suggests that either I have 3 rare special order cars.... or a dealer may have given Jim some misinformation some 40 years ago. But that wouldn't have happened, would it?

Let's not get no fights started in here!

That said, when I ordered my '71 LS5 I told the salesman that I wanted GoodYear RWL tires. He wrote it down on the order but told me he could not guarantee that that would be the case.

When it arrived with the GoodYears, he said "You were lucky and got what you wanted"

Good for judging, crappy for driving.

I hope you guys use the tires for show only? Driving them can't be safe.

It's a good you thing you showed up to tell us that. I never knew that weren't safe. As a matter of fact, I was just up to 120mph the other day on my 41 year old dry rotted Tiger Paws with one daughter unbelted in the passenger seat and the other one in the rear storage area. It was, however, a smooth dirt road.

The intent of my prior question was were they Firestone wide ovals or another specific Firestone tire?
