    Holley 2818 choke operation

Helping brother with carburetor adjustment for his 65 350hp car. The carburetor, (2818) sets the choke and fast idle fine before starting but after engine starts and you tap the accelerator the fast idle drops to curb idle position. I can not report if the choke butterfly stays closed and opens with the coil, I suspect it opens when the cam falls.

It appears the vacuum operating on the piston is not being balanced by the choke spring tension. I have read in archives about a choke rod, but am not familiar with this. The fast idle cam on the carburetor is red in color FWIW and the spring (coil) was set a one lean so I moved it to one rich and tension felt better allthough tension did not feel that bad at lean setting.

I do not have 65 supplement so I wanted to ask for help to see if I am missing anything. I say choke coil has lost it's tension which allows vacuum piston to overcome spring tension. If there is another adjustment to check can someone explain.

set the choke butterfly by feel and not by the R-L marks
