    435 hp stalling

I'm running 12* on the timing, 750 idle, and I have power brakes? and every time I go to stop she stalls. I think it has something to do with the vacuum. Anybody with some ideas. Thanks in advance.

If its associated with the power brakes (vacuum leak), you might try opening the hose going to the power brakes with the engine running and see if you obtain the same results. This might indicate a faulty vacuum diaphram assy.

Pull the power brake hose and plug the port. Then see whether the problem remains.

I agree with Robert, plug the vacuum hose and see if the engine stalls like before. Also, 750 idle sounds low for 435 hp engine.

Do you have a vacuum gauge? You might want to see how much vacuum you have. If I get a chance, I will pull the pb line on my car this weekend and see if it stalls.

Though I don't have a 435, my car ran fine with the PB vacuum line open. Made no difference at all. I'm beginning to suspect you may have a vacuum leak somewhere else and maybe the brakes are pushing things over the edge.

I think I solved my stalling problem. advanced the timing to 44* at 2500 RPM also adjusted the idle mixture screw a little on the rich side, gives it a little more vacuum at idle. also plug the vacuum advance line. It's a little to hot to test it, will try tomorrow morning. Thanks for all the help and input. Gary.

44 degrees will be fatal, the MAX is 36-38 total on a big block @ 3000 RPM full advance. Suggest you do not drive @ WOT with 44*

Is that with the vacuum advance disconnected and plugged, or connected?

Yes that' with the vacuum advance plugged and disconnected. Would be to much vacuum connected and unplugged. let me know. Thanks Gary.

                        Gary -

44* advance with the vacuum advance disconnected and plugged is WAY too much, and is bound to lead to detonation. As Ken noted, 36*-38* total timing (initial + centrifugal) is as far as you want to go.
