Probably in the late 70's I bought a radio at Bloomington for my '53 that was supposed to be for a 1954 Corvette. How would I identify it now? It's my understanding that there is a metal cover that is screwed on that has the part number or radio id stickered on, but I never had that cover on there. BTW, a piece of masking tape still stuck on has "$125.00" written on it. I know I didn't pay that much for it.

Re: 1954 Corvette Radio ????
OK fellas, I see I didn't word my question very well. As far as I know the 53's did not have the CONLRAD markings and the 54's did. This radio has the markings, so I know it is after 1953. What I'd like to know is how do I tell if it is a Corvette radio and not a regular Chevy or some other GM car. Sorry for the confusion.- Top

Re: 1954 Corvette Radio ????
The January 2004 issue of Vette Vues has an article on Corvette Delco radio identification written by Colvin. In it he says 1953 and 1954 used radio set # 3706551. He also says that Corvette radios used existing Delco components: 1953 passenger car chassis, 1953 Packard Wonderbar tuner, 1953 Pontiac speaker and power supply. Finally he says they had slight modifications from the passenger car parts, but does not say what they are.
You might check the archives or Driveline to find the name of a radio repair service and maybe they could help you figure out what you have.- Top

Re: 1954 Corvette Radio ????
Better yet you might want to ask the "Wonderbar Genius" Gerry Rudbeck who is a member on this forum how to discern the original date of your radio. He can tell you better than anyone. I sent 2 wonderbars to him and he was able to tell me what month and year the radio was produced!!
You can send him a private e-mail if you like.
Hope this helps.
