Ugh. I moved there in 1982 and lived there for 16 years but I can't answer who was there in 1974.

They may have some old records stashed away with info that may help you.

Stuart has a downtown mid-century style "old village" like many larger cities here on the east coast. When "A/C" got affordable in the 50's Florida became bearable for residency. Original old buildings and the like with shops and restaurants. Wife and I go there on occasion to just walk around.

Barry, Contact the local library. You have several options with them. They may have an old city directory which will list new car dealers. Absent of that you can ask them to look at the old newspaper microfilms for advertisements. They may refer you to their local historical society. Good luck, Bill Gould

Barry, Stuart has had the same Chevrolet Dealership since the 1950's. The name in the 50'-60's was Bonderchuck Chevrolet. In late 1960-1980 the name was John Jochum Chevrolet. The present name is Suburban Chevrolet which is on U.S. 1 south in Stuart FL.

Jochum Chevrolet. That rings a bell. I couldn't come up with that name to save my butt even though I lived just outside Stuart for many years!

Dan is correct, and remember them well. I graduated high school at school in Stuart ( Martin County High) and worked at John Jochem during my summer vacations.

I have been living in Palm City, just over the river from Stuart, for 15 years. I have always know it to be John Jochem Chevrolet, with Suburban Buick/GMC across Rt 1 and a little to the north. Might be the same owners now as a recent change with the trouble in the car industry and economy, but on the internet you see both names. Pretty sure the building still says John Jochem. I'll look the next time I drive by.
