Sorry, that's what I get for trying to be articulate at 1:00 a.m.
I was referring to that semi-gloss black cylindrical gizmo with the little window thingy in the top (dryer), that is mounted to the front of the black core support duhicky.
Earlier models had them mounted inboard of the core support, thus not requiring the notch.

Ron, Is your 66 an A/C car or a Big Block car? If the cut out appears hand cut one would assume it was done for a reason. Surely the person that made that cut would know in advancve if the the car was an A/C or Big Block car and if it wasn't then why still make the cut?

Big block, no AC. I though the answer for this was all cars got the notch.

If a Big block thing, again no AC, why? There isn't anything to clear on that side.

Well, that's one of the things previously stated. The cut out is not cut out, it is moulded into the panel when it was made. After the change, they were all like that, with no concern for AC, BB or anything else.
