    Needing help please

It seems like every one knows someone that can restored or repair most anything. (I don't) I never sent anything out to be repaired. But looking for some one that can rebuild or repair the vacuum advance's I have that are rare. So I'm asking who could repair these , ? Someone most . Thanks for any response pliease

Roy, somewhere I have heard/read about a liquid repair for diaphragms. Maybe someone on here will know of/remember who makes the product.

I've never heard of anyone that does. There would be multiple problems associated with repairing these. First, one would have to be able to un-crimp the two sections of the control in a non-destructive manner. Second, one would have to be able to re-crimp the control in a manner that was absolutely vacuum-tight. Third, and likely the most difficult of all, one would have to be able to replace or repair the "innards" in such a manner as the control would perform as it was originally designed.

If one were to just introduce some sort of "repair liquid" into the control, it might repair the diaphragm. However, I think it would be highly unlikely that a diaphragm repaired in this manner would cause the control to regain its original performance parameters.

Yes, Dick, I had one chapter member who was sucessful in fixing his original vac advance. He used the liquid latex available at most hardware stores to effect emergency repair of bicycle tires.

Inject the liquid into the diaphram area, use compressed air to FORCE it through the pin-hole rupture in the diaphram where it'll naturally seal due to pressure differential and then clean/rinse out the remaining, non-set, liquid latex using multiple rinse water baths.

But, even though this one guy did manage to repair his part, we both concluded the approach isn't 100% effective. It relies on the damage to the diaphram being a pin hole vs. LONG tear. If the later, the latex simply can't handle the situation.

Last, if a given diaphram has failed and you manage to plug a single hole, how long will it be before other areas of the diaphram begin to rupture from age???

OK Jack. I guess one could use Slime, a wonderful product for 4 wheeler tires. I suppose you could use a syringe to inject a small amount in the back side of the chamber, and then roll the product around for a few minutes to insure coverage. Then use your mighty vac or another vacuum source to pull the sealer into the hole. If you injected it in the front side, you would have to induce air pressure like you referenced. That could be very dicey unless you had precision control over the pressure, overpressure and you could destroy the diaphragm.

I hear that some one repairs sealed fuel pumps for C2's
I understand you'll need to buy a new VA to get it's inner's to use in the old VA . I would think someone having the correct VA would love to find a guy that can do this. I would!
